Malaga decorates itself with a sea of lights at Christmas. For some years now, the switching on of the Christmas lights has become an event. The lighting of Calle Larios in particular is redesigned every year. On the Paeso Maritimo there are many small stalls where you can buy Christmas and non-Christmas items. In addition, you can see Christian nativity scenes (Belén in Spanish) in many places. Around 6 January there is always a big parade. This reminds a little of Disneyland, although it has nothing to do with it.
An old tradition is to make elaborate nativity scenes (Belén) for Christmas and show them to the public. One of the largest nativity scenes is in the historic town hall. The Andalusians have a long tradition of building nativity scenes.
Another highlight at Christmas in Malaga is the illumination of the historic Botanical Gardens. Please click on the next link to see the incredible pictures.
