Cathedral of Malaga

After the reconquest of Malaga from the Moors, in 1528 the Catholic Monarchs started the construction of the cathedral above the original main mosque, which stood here for about 800 years. The works lasted until 1728 and the façade is mainly from this latter period. However, it would remain unfinished, as the south tower was never built. This is why the cathedral is popularly known as the "one-armed" ( La Manquita ). Malaga cathedral is on of the biggest church in Spain. Worth seeing are especially the chapels, Capilla Mayor and Capilla del Sagrado Corazón and the excellently worked choir stalls (pictures below). The two organs with over 4000 pipes are also worth listening to. From the rooftop bar in the AC Hotel Malaga Palacio you have a beautiful view of the cathedral
